In Portugal , about 2 million pensioners live with an average income of less than € 400 per month;

And, about 500,000 live with a pension of less than 300 € per month.
ASSIS focuses on supporting poor people over 65 and a monthly income of less than € 300, through the distribution of means to purchase of medicines and health products. Over 90 % of the elderly suffers over a chronic disease.
ASSIS is innovating in the area of distribution and delivery of the donation, by providing a means of efficient and secure payment for the elderly to be able to buy their medicines independently, by loading prepaid debit cards to give to the needy elderly. These payment cards can only be used in pharmacies, and are loaded periodically by the distribution of the received donations from citizens and businesses. ASSIS operates in network involving institutions on the ground that signal the elderly, to assign the prepaid cards for the elderly to acquire medications and involving local pharmacies that will receive the ASSIS cards as payment .
